Baselworld −

Les Ateliers

Baselworld brings the best-known names from the global watch and jewellery industry together in Basel to rub shoulders with pioneers, visionaries, the avant-garde and artists. The “Les Ateliers” exhibition space in Hall 1.1 provides the perfect setting for independent watchmakers to showcase their designs.

Baselworld was the first exhibition in the world to give independent watchmakers their own dedicated space. This was initially in the “Palace” but last year moved to the specially designed “Les Ateliers” area, giving outstanding independent manufacturers a dedicated area to showcase their fascinating craftsmanship and innovative timekeeping. For 2018, this area is located in Hall 1.1. Winkler collaborated with Expomobilia to install a false ceiling in the “Les Ateliers” area of the hall. This might initially sound rather mundane, but in fact it was a remarkable project requiring a great deal of expertise. The structure incorporates 149 motors and bears an overall load of 61 tonnes. The individual cross beams were also covered with wood to prevent the stretched canvas from warping. Expomobilia built cornice-edging underneath to form separate ceilings for each stand. This year was the second outing for Les Ateliers.
